Fiber Optics

Fiber-OpticFiber Optics is an emerging technology in the avionics and commercial airframe markets and is rapidly expanding Amphenol Canada has implemented this technology across our all of our products to provide fiber optics solutions for harsh environment systems in both military and commercial applications. For applications demanding reliability, traceability and the highest level of quality, a complete plug-and-play cable assembly directly from the manufacturer offers the highest degree of confidence. For these most demanding applications, Amphenol specializes in manufacturing custom cable assemblies with quality components and industry-leading workmanship. Amphenol is able to assist in designing and producing custom cable assemblies from a set of requirements or building to a customer print. Our highly skilled technicians are trained to a wide variety of industry standard procedures critical to manufacturing harsh environment fiber optic cable assemblies. All Amphenol cable assemblies are manufactured by expert technicians in our state-of-the-art, AS9100 certified facility.

MT FIBER-THE NEXT GENERATION OF FIBER TECHNOLOGY

MT (mechanical transfer) fiber is a rugged fiber optic technology designed for military and aerospace applications MT combines 12 fiber positions into 1 simple "contact" that can be installed into a traditional ARINC 600 connector platform.

Modified 121 Insert ARR:
4x MT fiber positions
totaling 48 fiber lines

Complete MT Fiber Insert:
16x MT fiber positions
totaling 192 fiber lines

ARINC 801 can only have a maximum of 36 positions on a standard 36F36 insert below. The heart of the MT fiber connectors is Amphenol's MT carrier blades. The blades make each MT ferrule easily removable from the connector, as with traditional fiber optic termini. This allows for re-pinning, thorough cleaning, and light re-polishing when necessary. Each blade carries an MT ferrule compliant with IEC Standard 61754-5 (fiber pitch 0.25mm) providing low optical insertion loss (typically 0.5dB) and excellent return loss when angle polished (typically >65dB).

STANDARD FIBER:

ARINC 600, MMA, R27 (M83527) FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

Fiber Amphenol Canada can provide ARINC 801 protocol contacts and cable assemblies for our ARINC and MMA products as well as Elio protocol upon request.

  • Uses precision ARINC 801 fiber optic termini (typical multi-mode insertion loss is less than 0.15 dB)
  • Removable alignment sleeve inserts for easy cleaning of fiber optic termini.
  • Three stages of alignment: shell-to-shell keys, guide pins, and ceramic alignment sleeves

QUADRAX F/O CAVITY ADAPTERS:

DESCRIPTION FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
Amphenol has developed a size 8 Quadrax contact cavity reducer to suit the F/O Sz 16 genderless contacts so that you can use standard ARINC inserts that have Quadrax positions. We provide rear grommets to support the F/O cable strain for these positions. Simply switch your Quadrax for an F/O contact instead of changing over your entire connector.
  • Uses standard ARINC 600 Quadrax contact cavities with a cavity adapter to allow the installation of a size 16 fiber contact and cable

TRANSCEIVERS:

F/O contacts and cables can get expensive! Amphenol Canada offers copper-to-F/O transceivers in the ARINC 801 protocol

FIBER OPTICS CABLE ASSEMBLIES:

Amphenol Canada can offer a value-add solution by adding F/O cable assemblies that can be terminated to LC or SC connectors as well as open designs that can be terminated by the customer as needed. Please contact the factory for more information
